Notary Services

The City of Trenton offers notary services pursuant to the laws of the State of Michigan.

The purpose of a Notary Public is to witness your signature on a document.  The Notary does not verify the accuracy or legality of the document being signed.

Notary Policies

  • All signators must sign in the presence of a Notary.
  • Do not pre-sign any documents requiring notarizing.
  • Documents shall not contain blank fields.  Incomplete documents will not be notarized.
  • The document must be written in English
  • All individuals requesting notary services must be present to sign the document in front of the Notary Public.
  • The Clerk’s Office will verify the identity of all individuals signing the document against a government issued photo ID (i.e. driver’s license or state id).

Notaries do not certify copies of documents or notarize that the document is an original or true copy of another record. If you need a "certified true copy" of a document, you must acquire this from the location it originated.

The City of Trenton reserves the right to refuse to perform notary services for any document.

Notarizing is done during normal business hours. No appointment is needed to obtain the service. There is no charge for this service to residents of Trenton and a $10 for non-residents.
