City Treasurer's Office

The mission of the Treasurer's Office is to ensure the convenient, timely and accurate billing and collection of taxes and fees, receipt of all payments to the City, and investment of those funds so as to maximize the financial resources available to meet the needs of the City while complying with all laws governing the deposit and investment of said funds.

 

Payment Methods

  • By Mail: City of Trenton, 2800 Third St, Trenton, MI 48183
  • In Person: City Hall, 2800 Third St, Trenton, MI 48183, PAYMENT TYPES ACCEPTED: CASH, CHECKS, MONEY ORDERS & CREDIT CARDS(3% Convience fees charged by third party for Credit Cards payments)
  • Drop Box: City Hall, 2800 Third St, Trenton, MI 48183 Located in the driveway on the driver's side of the vehicle.  PAYMENT TYPE ACCEPTED: Checks.  DO NOT PLACE CASH IN THE DROP BOX.  Payments placed in the drop box after 5pm will be processed on the next business day.  Payments must be received on or before the due date by 5:00Pm.
  • Direct Pay: Sign up for Direct Pay of your water bill and have the amount due automatically deducted from your account on the due date.  Fill out Form: UB Direct Payment Form
  • Credit/ Debit Online or Phone : By phone 866-739-0473 or Online www.trenton-mi.org  PAYMENT TYPES ACCEPTED: Credit or Debit cards (3% convenience fee added) or E-CHECKS ($3.00 flat fee)
  • The City of Trenton charges a $35.00 NSF fee.

Property Tax Information

All Properties Owners in the City of Trenton receive two tax bills per year.   The Summer bill is mailed on July 1st and payable by August 31st without penalty.  The Winter Tax bill is mailed on December 1st and is payable by February 14th without penalty.  If a due date falls on a weekend or holiday, the due date becomes the next business day.  Penalty on a late tax bill is 4%.

Tax payments are accepted at our office from July through the end of February.  Beginning March 1st of each year, all delinquent real property taxes are fowarded to Wayne County Treasurer's Office for collection.  You can visit their website at www.treasurer.waynecounty.com or call 313-224-5990 for pay off information.

Personal Property Taxes

All taxes levied on business personal property are collected through the City Treasurer's Office.  Any business operating on December 31 of any year will be responsible for the next year's entire billing cycle (both Summer & Winter bills). This is a State of Michigan law.  Failure to pay Personal Property Taxes as billed may result in the placement of a Warrant of Distraint on said property and possible seizure of the property.  

 

TRASH CARTS

Trash and Yard Waste Carts can be purchased at the Treasurer's Office at City Hall for $75.00.  Cash, Checks or Credit Cards (3%fee) are accepted.
