COMMISSIONS CLERK - (734) 675-1162

Under the supervision of the City Administrator, provides clerical and administrative support to various City Boards and Commissions. Transcribes and prepares minutes, prepares public notifications and maintains files for each applicable Board or Commission. Responds to public information requests and assists in planning for special sponsored events. Performs other clerical tasks, and assists other departments, as required. The City of Trenton is always looking for residents who would like to volunteer their time to serve on one of our Commissions. The City Charter requires residency of at least two years. Applications are available in the Mayor's Office and the Commission's Office.

BUILDING CODE BOARD OF APPEALS:
When there is an agenda the meetings are scheduled for 7:30 p.m. in the Commission's Room. Duties and functions are to review appeals in which the owner of a building or structure is appealing a decision of the code official who is refusing to grant a modification to the provisions of the building or structure, or plumbing system, or mechanical system, or electrical system.

CABLE COMMUNICATIONS COMMISSION:
Meets the first Tuesday of the month at 6:30 p.m. in the Commission's Room. This Commission makes recommendations to Council concerning franchise agreement, budget, rate changes, service changes, etc, and makes evaluations of the cable system.

CITY BEAUTIFUL COMMISSION:
Meets the first and third Thursday of each month at 7:30 p.m. in the Commission's Room. Their purpose is to promote, plan and sponsor a program of general improvement in the appearance of all properties in the City and to investigate, study and recommend plans for improving the general health, sanitation, safety and cleanliness of the City.

CIVIC COMMISSION:
Meets the third Monday of each month at 7:00 p.m. in the Commission's Room. This is an advisory commission that coordinates and reviews all requests for civic events occurring within the City, such as the Christmas Parade, Memorial Day Parade, city-wide garage sale day, and organizational fund-raisers.

CULTURAL COMMISSION:
Meets the first Wednesday of each month at 7:00 p.m. at the Bridge Cultural Center. This commission considers, studies and recommends plans for the development of city-wide cultural projects. They promote, coordinate and develop the performing and creative arts by making recommendations for programs of cultural opportunities and experiences for the citizens of the City and to meet with the Parks and Recreations Administration on a regular basis concerning all culturally oriented projects and to facilitate communications with the State Council for the Arts.

DOWNTOWN DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY:
Meets the first Wednesday of every month at 7:00 p.m. in the Caucus Room. A public body corporation to act in the best interests of the city to halt property value deterioration, increase property tax valuation where possible in the business district of the city, elimination the causes that deterioration, and to promote economic growth pursuant to Act 197 of the Public Acts of 1975.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONTROL BOARD:
When there is an agenda, regular meetings are scheduled at 7:30 p.m. in the Commission's Room. An advisory board renders assistance and advice to the City officials in connection with various forms of environmental protection. It grants or rejects variances and acts as an appeal board for cases relating to this matter.

HISTORICAL COMMISSION:
Meets the second Thursday of the month at 7:00 p.m. in the Commission's Room. An advisory commission collects, develops and compiles historical data and information concerning the origin and development of the Trenton area, as well as over-seeing maintenance and tours of the Trenton Historical Museum.

LIBRARY COMMISSION:
Meets the second Thursday of each month at 7:00 p.m. at the Library. This advisory commission studies and reviews existing library facilities in the City and recommends any improvements to the library system.

PARKS & RECREATION:
Meets the third Thursday of each month at 7:00 p.m. at the Kennedy Ice Arena. The purpose of this advisory commission is to consider, study and make recommendations relative to a master plan for the development of city-wide recreation programs and facilities. The commission also considers, studies and makes recommendations for the improvement of existing parks and range planning for the City of Trenton.

PLANNING COMMISSION:
Meets on the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month at 7:30 p.m. in the Commission's Room. Advisory Board for making zoning change recommendations to the City's Zoning Ordinance and consider long-range planning for the City of Trenton.

TRAFFIC SAFETY COMMISSION:
Meets the first Wednesday of the month (and fourth, if necessary,) at 8:00 p.m. in the Commission's Room. Reviewing public safety matters is the purpose of this advisory commission.

YOUTH COMMISSION:
Meets every Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. at the Kennedy Ice Arena. The purpose of the Youth Commission is to identify issues and concerns of the community's youth and to make recommendations for projects and programs to address them for the betterment of the community. The Youth Commission consists of nine students and five advisory board members.

ZONING BOARD OF APPEALS AND ADJUSTMENTS:
Meets every three weeks on Thursday at 7:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers. This commission conducts formal Public Hearing of advertised applications for appeal of the City's Zoning Ordinance and votes on final granting or rejection of the zoning variances.
