Yard Waste Recycling
Curbside collection of yard waste begins in Mid-April and continues to Thanksgiving, depending on weather. State & Federal regulations prohibit disposal of yard waste in regular trash.

Curbside pickup of yard waste on your normal day will only be available by utilizing the "Yard Waste" carts. These carts may be purchased from the city and will have a green lid clearly labeled "Yard Waste." The carts will hold considerably more compostable material, are easy to load, and can easily be wheeled around the yard for loading. Paper bags, green mesh bags and cans cannot be collected with the automated trash collection equipment.

Residents may continue to use paper bags or cans, but must take them to the compost bin at the transfer station. Neighbors may consider sharing a yard waste cart. Plastic bags are not biodegradable and can't be accepted.

Brush & Leaf Collection
Thursday is the normal brush collection day. Please separate brush from other debris and locate it away from overhead obstructions such as wires, trees, etc. A $10 charge will be billed to each pickup address.

Curbside leaf collection begins in late October and ends in late November, weather permitting. A map for leaf pick-ups can be downloaded here. Smaller quantities of brush and leaves can be included with your regular "Yard Waste" collection. Call 675-5496.

Special & Loader Pick-up
A SPECIAL PICKUP can be requested 24 hours with one call to 675-5496. Special pickups from residential property should be placed at the curb and away from over head obstructions such as utility cables or trees. Bulky items such as furniture, windows, building material, or other items too large or heavy for trash carts will be picked up on designated days.

Thursday is "City-Wide" Brush pick-up. A $10.00 fee will be assessed per load per pick-up of brush or bulky materials. Residents will not be charged for removal of brush from City trees damaged by storms.

Heavy or loose debris that must be collected with a front-end loader such as concrete, dirt, bricks, or sod will be picked up on Wednesdays at a cost of $35 per cubic yard with a minimum charge of $35. These materials CANNOT be accepted at the Transfer Station.

Contractors are responsible for the removal and disposal of their debris and are not eligible for this service.

Automated Trash Collection
Trenton has modernized residential trash collection. In order to continue collection by city workers, an automated trash collection system was implemented in 2007. Trenton is the first community downriver to eliminate manual collection. In addition to saving labor, it is making the operation much more efficient!

Each residence was provided a brown 95 gallon trash cart for household trash. Containers are identified with a serial number that is recorded as assigned to the residence. Apartments continue to utilize dumpster containers.

Residents wishing to continue curbside yard waste pick-up must purchase a special 95 gallon cart, with green lid marked "yard waste" from the city (see yard waste recycling). For info call 675-8470.

Holiday Rubbish Collection
Your rubbish will be collected one day later than normal and into Saturday of the holiday week as necessary. The affected holidays include New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas Day.

Normal Rubbish collection will take place on President's Day and Veteran's Day, the day after Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve if these holidays fall on regularly scheduled pick-up day.

Transfer Station Recycling Drop-Off Center
The City's Transfer Station at 1801 Van Horn RD. is available free of charge for residents who wish to dispose of residential rubbish only. Yard waste, newsprint, plastic containers, glass, tin, aluminum cans, empty paint and aerosol cans, some appliances and used motor oil will be accepted for recycling.

Trenton business, apartment owners and Trenton contractors may use the Transfer Station but will be assessed a charge of $35 per cubic yard with a $75 minimum charge. Proof of residency is required. Please note that refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners, dehumidifiers, shingles and tires cannot be disposed of by residents at the Transfer Station. Call for a special pick-up to dispose of these items.

It is violation of ordinance 74-49 to allow a non-resident to gain access to the Transfer Station using a resident's identification. This violation causes a tax burden for all Trenton residents.

The Transfer Station is open Tuesday- Saturday, 9AM - 4:00PM For info call 675-8470.

Refrigerant Removal
A $45 refrigeration sticker must be purchased from D.P.S. to dispose of any refrigerant charged appliance including refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners and dehumidifiers. The fee includes the $10 "Special Pick-up" fee. These appliances cannot be accepted at the Transfer Station.

Residential Rubbish Collection Rules
Set household rubbish at the curb (front pickup) in 95 gallon carts or at the edge of the alley (rear pickup) at sundown on the eve of the collection day or before 7 AM on the scheduled day. Remove containers the same day.
Use only city issued 95 gallon trash carts. Refuse containers shall be adequate in number for the dwelling, not overfilled and tightly covered when not in use.
On-board cameras-DVR record packer movements and loading operation.

Garbage should be wrapped in newspaper or placed in garbage bags to prevent refuse from freezing to carts in cold weather, keeping carts cleaner.
Yard waste must be separate from household rubbish. (see yard waste recycling)

The occupant/property owner may be held responsible for litter existing on property in the City. Rubbish cannot be picked up on private property.

On collection day, please keep vehicles off the road especially on courts.

Paint cans and used oil will not be collected with regular rubbish. Please take these items to the recycling drop-off center. Unused latex paint may be allowed to harden by removing lid.

For the health and safety of all, do not dispose of needles or sharps in regular trash. They can be dropped off at the King Rd. fire station in designated containers.

Animal waste is to bagged for pickup in trash cart.
