Coalition NewsTrenton's Health and Wellness Coalition, comprised of community leaders, educators, businesses and healthcare professionals, was formed in 2007 to assist, support and implement the needed components to affect healthful changes within our community. It's vision is to create a community positively positioned, both environmentally and socially, for developing, encouraging and realizing healthy and active lifestyles among all citizens. Their mission is to promote community health and wellness and develop healthy lifestyles by connecting people, ideas and resources. Coalition Priorities:
All New! Bollywood Exercise DanceBollywood is a high energy dance that combines hip hop, traditional Hindu and belly dance. This form of dance works every muscle in your body. It is a great cardio, fat burning, waist slimming, and body toning workout. The 8-week, 1/2 hour class will meet on Wednesdays from 6:30-7:00 p.m. at the Kennedy Recreation Center. Combining basic kickboxing moves with high intensity plyometrics and calisthenics will get you in better shape fast - no matter if you are beginner or advanced!! Classes will be held on Wednesdays from 7:15-8:15 PM at the Kennedy Recreation Center. Certified Yoga Instructor, Marie Corless, will teach you to relax, breathe deeply, become more flexible, and get a total body workout through yoga techniques with the help of a chair. The chair will be used to sit on, for balance when standing, as well as, to occasionally help get onto and up from the floor. Beginning and Continuing YogaWhat can Yoga do for YOU? No need to spend thousands of dollars traveling to India or even spend hundreds to stay at an 'Ashram' somewhere in America! Instead, join our seasoned Yoga Instructor of 23 years, Patti Nevin, at our own Westfield Center on Wednesday evenings! Become more flexible while you develop greater focus, learn how to calm your mind, release tensions and develop a sense of well-being. Each session is appropriate for beginners and will offer challenges for the continuing student. Classes are held Wednesdays, 6:15 - 7:45 pm. Engaging the body and mind, this gentle, low impact exercise will leave you invigorated. No experience necessary. Taught by a certified STOTT Pilates instructor, the class will be held on Thursdays 7:30-8:30pm at The Training Room located upstairs at the Kennedy Center. Walk MichiganWalk your way to a healthy life! Register at the Westfield Center before 5 PM every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, June 1 through October 28. Enjoy the scenic route along the bike path in South McLouth Park. This free program is open to all ages. Children must be accompanied by an adult. The program turns indoors November 2-May 26 at the Trenton High School every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at 5 PM. Call 675-0063. Meditation ClassAllow Meditation to take you to 'interesting & sometimes exotic places' within your own mind! Join us and learn 'healthy detachment' from our mind's "constant chatter", which will bring peacefulness and more. We will keep a Meditation Journal, explore different techniques, and have weekly discussions. A $10 charge will be assessed to cover materials. This 6-week class meets on Wednesday from 8-9:15 PM at Westfield. The program has been completely revamped, and introduce different skills than previous sessions.
