Our Mission Statement
The Building Department enforces the State of Michigan Building Codes and issues permits for new construction, repairs and alterations to existing structures, additions, signs, swimming pools and electrical, plumbing, heating/air conditioning and sewer work, and zoning permits for sheds and fences.
This department performs inspections. They are also responsible for code enforcement, inspections regarding re-sale of one and two-family homes, certificate of occupancy inspections for renting existing commercial buildings and the registration and inspection of all rental dwelling units in the City of Trenton.
All site development plan submittals and construction plans come through this department. Lot division and combination requests, rezoning requests and variances through the Zoning Board of Appeals and Adjustments are initiated in this department.
