Kennedy Aquatic Center Rules & Regulations


For your safety and the safety of others, the following rules and regulations have been established in accordance with State Pool Regulations. Failure to comply or to follow staff directives will result in disciplinary action and or removal from the facility. The City reserves the right to rule on any matter not specifically stated in the rules & regulations. The Kennedy Aquatic Center management reserves the right to restrict any activity and/or use of equipment that may be deemed as dangerous. Management also reserves the right to restrict use to any person who is misusing or disrupting said activity or equipment. Each person using the Kennedy Aquatic Center does so at their own risk.


General Rules

  • Capacity is limited to 1,000 patrons.
  • The Kennedy Aquatic Center reserves the right to limit admissions due to safety considerations.
  • Animals are not permitted.
  • Patrons must have a wristband issued by the Kennedy Aquatic Center prior to entering/re-entering the pool. Wristbands must be worn at all times. Wristbands cannot be shared between patrons. If a wristband is lost, misplaced, or not worn, you must provide proof of purchase to continue using the Kennedy Aquatic Center. If proof of purchase cannot be provided, wrist bands must be re-purchased at full price to continue using the facility.
  • Backpacks, duffel bags and personal coolers are not permitted on the pool deck. Locker keys are available for $1.00 to keep personal belongings in. Once the locker key is returned, we will give you $1.00 back.
  • The City of Trenton is not responsible for lost or stolen items.
  • Patrons are responsible for providing their own towels.
  • Guests with special needs are welcome; staff is pleased to provide assistance when requested.
  • All infants must be changed in the restrooms and diapers must be disposed of in the proper containers.
  • Swimming is permitted only when a lifeguard is on duty.
  • Only lifeguards are permitted on the guard stands.
  • Flips, handstands, cartwheels and somersaults are strictly prohibited on the pool deck/entering the pool.
  • No skateboards, roller blades / skates, or bikes are allowed inside the Kennedy Aquatic Center.
  • Diving is only permitted off of the diving boards.
  • Private swim lessons are not permitted during open swim, unless city sponsored.
  • All patrons must take a shower before entering the pool.
  • Smoking, tobacco products, vapes, alcoholic beverages, drugs, or persons under the influence of alcoholic beverages or drugs, are not permitted.
  • Food, gum, water bottles and others beverages are not allowed on the pool deck.
  • Food and beverages are available for purchase at the Kennedy Aquatic Center Concession Stand and may only be consumed inside the designated concession area. Food brought from home may be consumed in the designated picnic area only. Glass containers are not permitted.
  • No running or horseplay on the pool deck.
  • Radios & TVs are not permitted on the pool deck.
  • During "BREAK" (10 minutes, 15 minutes if heat index is 90˚ or above) adults only are allowed in the pool.
  • Inappropriate behavior, language, or attire are not permitted and will be grounds for refusing admission or removal from the facility without a refund. Participants are expected to be courteous of each other and staff members.
  • Persons with infectious conditions or contagious diseases such as colds, open sores, the flu, eye infections, ear infections and similar infectious conditions/contagious diseases are not permitted in the pool.

Dress Code

  • Swimmers must be attired in lined swimsuits that have adequate coverage.
  • Swim wear with exposed zippers, buckles, rivets, or metal ornamentations are not permitted (including belts and chains).
  • Cutoffs and colored T-shirts may not be worn in the pool.
  • Infants/children not toilet trained and incontinent adults must wear a swim diaper.
  • Guests are encouraged to wear water shoes while walking around the facility.
  • Only aqua shoes may be worn in the pool.
  • Sunscreen lotion may be worn, oil based products are not allowed.
  • Face masks, swim fins, snorkels, flotation toys, mermaid tails and water wings are not permitted. Life jackets are available to patrons of the facility. Personal Life Jackets that are Coast Guard approved (Type II and Type III) may be brought in the facility once it has been inspected by the Head Guard on duty. Life jackets are not permitted on the slide.

Age Requirements - requirements may vary due to special events.

  • You must be 14 years of age or older to enter the Kennedy Aquatic Center without accompanied supervision.
  • Children 13 years of age and under must be accompanied by and under the supervision of a parent/guardian (or responsible individual at least 16 years old with proof of age) at all times.
  • Children 5 and under must be within arm's reach of a parent/guardian (or responsible individual at least 16 years old with proof of age) at all times.
  • Groups bringing children to the facility must have at least 1 adult for every 5 children.
  • You must be at least 48" tall, 12 years of age and able to pass a swim test to use the slide.

Diving Board Use Rules

  • Diving is only permitted off of the diving boards.
  • Only one person on the board at a time.
  • Only forward dives are allowed. No backward, inward, reverse dives. No handstands, cartwheels or twists off the diving boards.
  • Jumping off the diving board into the arms of another swimmer is not permitted.
  • Swimming under the diving board is prohibited.
  • The lifeguard on duty may restrict dives based on safety concerns.
  • Patron must take swim test if requested by lifeguard.
  • Diver assumes all risk of injury due to misuse of the diving board of failure to follow these rules. Failure to follow rules can result in serious injury.

Slide Use Rules

  • You must be at least 48" tall, 12 years of age and able to pass a swim test to use the slide. Non-swimmers are not permitted to ride the slide.
  • Lifeguard will instruct patrons when to slide.
  • No lifejackets may be worn while on the slide.
  • All riders must ride the slide feet first either sitting or lying down on their back.
  • No standing, walking, jumping or climbing on the slide.
  • Patrons are never allowed to catch swimmers at the end of the slide.
  • No adults are permitted to slide with their children.
  • Pregnant women and people with heart or back conditions should not use the slide.
  • Rider assumes all risk of injury due to misuse of the slide of failure to follow these rules. Failure to follow rules can result in serious injury.

Inclement Weather Policy

  • It is our primary interest to keep participants and staff safe during inclement weather and uncertain conditions that otherwise threaten their safety. In the event that severe weather approaches the area, the Kennedy Aquatic Center management will closely monitor local radar and weather reports. If thunder is heard or lightning is seen, the Kennedy Aquatic Center management will close the pool and guests will be asked to exit the water and pool deck. The locker rooms will remain open until conditions allow for re-opening the pools.

Refund Policy

  • There are no refunds of purchased Aquatic Center Memberships.
  • If the pool closes due to weather, contamination or for any reason deemed necessary by the Kennedy Aquatic Center management; we will not issue cash, check or credit card refunds.
  • You may request a pass for a return visit if you have been in the pool for less than one (1) hour and are able to show proof of purchase. No exceptions.
  • If you decline to receive or ask for your receipt from the cashier during point of sale, we will not be able to reprint your purchase at a later date or time. Therefore, we will not be able to issue you a return pass in the event the facility closes.

FAILURE TO ABIDE BY THE RULES AND REGULATIONS OF THE KENNEDY RECREATION CENTER MAY BE GROUNDS FOR EXPULSION FROM THE FACILITY.
