Trenton Kennedy Recreation Center has announced it is partnering with Michigan's largest adult hockey program, Michigan Sports Enterprises (MSE), Inc., to bring a new organized adult recreational hockey league to the Downriver area this fall.
Starting in September with the 2007-08 Fall/Winter season, MSE will be organizing 18 and over adult hockey leagues and clinics at Kennedy Recreation Center, located at 3101 West Rd. More than 200 teams and 3,000 individual players already participate annually in MSE leagues and clinics at two Metro Detroit locations - Great Lakes Sports City in Fraser and Mount Clemens Ice Arena in Mount Clemens. The customized MSE web site, www.msehockey.com, has averaged more than 1 million hits annually since it went online in April 1998.
"We're very pleased with this new arrangment, and we're looking forward to being the home of a fun, competitive and well-run adult hockey league starting in September," said Kennedy Recreation Center General Manager Scott Muir.
"We operate a clean, well-managed rink with excellent ice conditions, and MSE has an unmatched 10-year track record of running the biggest and best-organized adult hockey leagues in Michigan. It's a perfect partnership, and one that we're sure will bring a lot of fun and excitement to Trenton and neighboring communities."
MSE was founded in 1997 by veteran adult hockey player Al Zawacky, who was unhappy at the time with the way his league was being run by the local ice rink. Today, he and MSE Vice President/General Manager Steve Ricucci run what they call "The Adult Hockey League Run by Adult Hockey Players."
"We pride ourselves on being the program run by recreational hockey players not by a rink manager or a Zamboni driver," Zawacky said. "If there are games being played or a clinic in session, someone from MSE is there before and after to answer any questions or address any concerns.
"A lot of adult hockey programs I've played in didn't show the players the respect and attention they deserve as customers. We do, 100 percent of the time. And that's what makes MSE different."
What this means for teams are all the special features and benefits that MSE has pioneered over it's successful 10-year history,
Ricucci said.
"Some of these are our 24-hour game-time hotline, flexible scheduling, on-site supervision, easy and affordable payment options, referees who are continuously evaluated and screened, the best possible ice times available, and our up-to-the minute website featuring game results and standings updated in virutal real-time." he said. "We take a lot of pride in being the best-run, most-organized and service-oriented adult hocky program around."
Zawacky said that brochures and registration forms detailing the league offerings and pricing for the 2007-08 season will be available shortly at Kennedy Recreation Center and on the MSE website.
"In the meantime, we would encourage anyone who has any ideas or suggestion to contact us through our website," he said. "A lot of people don't realize that hockey is a sport that can be played by just about anyone, and we'll have a league available for everyone from the beginner to the highly skilled, men and women, the young and the not-so-young.
"We are really looking forward to getting started in September."
